As in any case with an artist performing someone's song, the songwriter obviously still "owns" the song itself. You are purchasing the non-exclusive rights to use the fully produced track to put your vocals on and promote yourself as an artist! You have full rights to pitch it, showcase it, perform it, etc.. You simply give the songwriter credit when credit is due... as any established artist would once they cut someone's song. The songwriter will be paid through their own channels (bmi, etc..) if the song were to take off or generate songwriting royalties. You will be paid as the artist.
